Mississauga, Ontario (May 7, 2012) The Small Businesses Association of Jamaica (SBAJ) represents businesses that employ up to 50 employees, and has income not exceeding five million US dollars per annum ($US5M), has turned to Group FiO to leverage its expertise in implementing Opentaps Multi-tenancy Model for its members.

The Small Business Sector contributes one third of the gross domestic product (GDP) of Jamaica’s economy and is responsible for nearly forty percent of the labor force.  The Micro and Small Enterprises sector is expected to continue to be a steady, important and growing component of Jamaica’s economy over the coming years.

The business management (ERP) and customer service (CRM) software will integrate all operational and customer management functions for Manufacturers, Distributors and Service providers who carry out multiple tasks. Coverage will include Sales, Accounts, Pay roll, Inventory Management, Production planning, Costing as well as Customer history, support and tracking system.

“As a company, our primary focus is bringing to small and medium sized businesses the same technical capabilities used by large companies. Multi-tenancy makes perfect sense in this instance” says Ravi Srinivasan, President of Group FiO, “We’re delighted to lend our know-how to the SBAJ and its members”.

Multi-tenancy refers to a principle in software architecture where a single instance of the software runs on a server, serving multiple client organizations (tenants).

Multi-tenancy is different from multi-instance architecture where separate software instances (or hardware systems) are set up for different client organizations. With a multi-tenant architecture, a software application is designed to virtually partition its data and configuration, and each client organization works with a customized virtual application instance.

Multi-tenancy is also regarded as one of the essential attributes of Cloud Computing.

Improved resource utilization and lower cost. The application and database are shared by multiple clients, it is not necessary to have a dedicated server for every client thus reducing overall costs for all.
