This June 27, veteran crafter Nicole Yost will teach a class for the San Diego Learning Annex called “How to Make Money from Arts & Crafts.” If you have ever dreamed of saying goodbye to the nine-to-five and starting a business selling your own arts and crafts, this is the class for you. In this informative class, students will learn the basics of selling at consignment shops, street fairs, and in the lucrative online marketplace. Other topics include:
* How to uncover the hidden marketplaces for handcrafted items
* How to sell crafts online – even if you don’t have a website
* Tips and tricks for selling at craft shows and other in-person events
* Pricing for profit
* Licenses, taxes and other business requirements
* How to advertise and promote products for free
* How to accept credit cards
* How to make repeat sales
“Everyone has the same questions and the same challenges when they start out,” says Yost, who is a regular fixture in the DIY arts and crafts scene, “this class helps new folks move past those first hurdles without all the bumps and bruises, and also provides existing arts and crafts vendors with tips and tools they can use to grow their business.”
“Nicole Yost is a captivating speaker, ” says Australian-born San Diego artist Emily Connell, “Her style is informative, but also very entertaining. Her enthusiasm really shines through in everything she says.”
Presented with warmth, humor, and personal stories, this class is engaging as well as instructive. The class combines Yost’s own personal craft business experiences with those she has collected from the many successful artisans she has learned from in her career.
Nicole Yost is the organizer of the Punk Rock Craft Fair and a founding member of the San Diego chapter of the Craft Mafia. She is also the founder of the popular ‘Bad Girls of Craft’ group. In addition to selling handcrafted wares, Yost is the president of www.AstaArts.com, a company that produces hip, unique art rubber stamps. She is the author of the forthcoming book Turn your Crafts into Cash.
