You could call Chris Rudder, Director of Planning and Supply Chain for The AVC Group, an avid defender of careful planning. He generally follows the industry and knows many of the key players, and would not switch platforms unless he could provide a compelling reason.

“I first met Gene Averill and Clark Johnson at an industry conference several years ago,” Rudder said, referring to Avercast’s Co-Founders. “They were just coming to market with Avercast, and because Gene was responsible for much of the original code for Demand Solutions, we installed Avercast at my former employer’s operation. The planners there liked the software, liked the way it worked and I liked the service especially.”

Rudder and his planners track more than 5,000 SKUs representing five brands and about 1,500 finished goods using monthly information from the company’s ERP system. The AVC Group maintains three warehouses, one of which is in Europe. Based on his previous experience with Avercast, Rudder expects to reduce The AVC Group inventories by at least 25 percent.

The AVC Group is the corporate parent of state-of-the-art consumer and commercial audio, video, and control systems: ATON®, ELAN® Home Systems, Niles® Audio, Sunfire® and Xantech®. After a demonstration using their own data in Avercast, it dawned on Rudder that the Avercast team had achieved the ability to “flip” between forecasting and demand planning numbers without long loading times while the software “switches gears.”

“When you click between forecasting and replenishment data, it’s seamless,” Rudder said. “You can plan your demand and then it’s almost like clicking on an Excel® tab—all the data is already populated for the demand plan. With our old software we hit a button and went to get a cup of coffee.”

Rudder says the other extremely helpful feature is the ability to push the forecast from a summary level down to a warehouse or distribution level.

“When you’re meeting with your sales team and you’re trying to plan your demand stream, they don’t care what warehouse it needs to come from. With our old software we had to manually take the total forecast and break it out by warehouse. With Avercast we forecast at the aggregate level and get warehouse counts based on historical usage instantly.”
