Verizon Wireless Places 18th in Annual Survey of Information Technology Professionals

06/21/2006, BASKING RIDGE, NJ — For the fourth consecutive year, Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation’s most reliable wireless network, has been recognized as one of the top workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals by IDG’s Computerworld. This honor is part of the IT publication’s 13th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey, which was published in this week’s issue of Computerworld. This year, Verizon Wireless placed 18th on the list, up from 29th in 2005.

Verizon Wireless’ Information Technology Department was selected based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention, in addition to results of a survey given to current IT department employees. Additionally, employees were asked to rate morale in their IT departments and the importance of various benefits provided to them.

“We’re pleased that Verizon Wireless has once again been recognized by Computerworld as one of the Best Places to Work in IT,” said Martha Delehanty, vice president of human resources for Verizon Wireless. “Our national reputation as a great place to work – with competitive total compensation, a comprehensive benefits package and outstanding training and career opportunities-helps us to attract, retain and promote the best talent and to deliver a positive wireless experience to our 53 million customers nationwide.”

“The recipients of this year’s Best Places to Work represent a diversity of industries from technology to finance to pharmaceuticals,” said Don Tennant, editor in chief, Computerworld. “However, each organization is united by a common theme — they embrace the value of IT talent within the workplace and the impressive contributions that these professionals make on a daily basis.”

Since 1994, Computerworld’s “Best Places to Work” feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals compiled by IDG’s Computerworld. To view the complete list of the 2006 Best Places to Work in IT, please visit www.computerworld.com.
