San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine will present the seminar “Understanding Healthcare Decisions for Patients & Family Caregivers” on Saturday, June 2 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Family caregivers and anyone in the community impacted by chronic or serious illness are encouraged to attend and learn how to ensure that your healthcare wishes are met, especially when you are unable to advocate for yourself.

The seminar will focus on topics including:

  • Advance Directives:
Understanding Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare and POLST
  • The importance of getting your legal affairs in order
    (Living Will, Trust, Estate Planning)
  • End-of-Life Care Resources
  • Q&A Panel with Presenters

“What matters most to patients when thinking about healthcare decisions are the outcomes they most hope for,” said Kathleen Pacurar, President and CEO of San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine. “Talking with your loved ones about your deeply held goals and values can prepare them for making the best possible in-the-moment medical decisions in the event you cannot make them for yourself.”

Presenters include local medical and legal experts and the program will feature a question-and-answer session with a panel of healthcare professionals.

The free workshop is available to registered participants; limited seating is available. Register by May 29 via email to info@sdhospice.org or call 619-278-6141.
