Texts from Catwoman was the parody that simply had to happen. Internet denizens have been enjoying the hilarious tumblr “Texts From Hillary” for weeks when its subject, Secretary of State Clinton herself, decided to get in on the fun. The blog pictured Hillary Clinton checking her cell phone on a military plane, juxtaposed with other famous figures from President Obama to Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg on theirs, captioned with the texts being exchanged. When Secretary Clinton herself decided to submit a picture, the meme made the jump from the internet to national offline media, receiving coverage on MSNBC, NPR and elsewhere.
At almost the same time, The Dark Knight Rises released a new series of promotional photos for an upcoming article in Entertainment Weekly, showing Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy as Batman, Catwoman and Bane. Cat-Tales author Chris Dee decided these have to go together, and “Texts from Catwoman” is the result.
The Dark Knight Rises is Christopher Nolan’s third and final installment of his Batman trilogy, starring Christian Bale (Batman/Bruce Wayne), Anne Hathaway (Selina Kyle/Catwoman), Tom Hardy (Bane), Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and other Nolan alums Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard, to be released by Warner Bros. July 2012
Cat-Tales is a fan fiction series which depicts a fascinating version of the Batman universe where the stories told in comic books are understood to be the lies and distortions of a tabloid called The Gotham Post. It is unaffiliated with Warner Brothers, DC Comics, DC Entertainment or Texts from Hillary.
Texts from Hillary is the brainchild of Adam Smith and Stacy Lambe. Absolutely nobody is affiliated with Hillary Clinton.
