MIB Statistics Identify Worst Places for Uninsured Drivers and Whiplash Fraud
Online claims specialists, Precision Claims, respond to a new study revealing Britain’s hotspots for uninsured drivers and whiplash fraud.
A new study published by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) has revealed the number of uninsured motorists on Britain’s roads.
In one UK city, Peterborough, there are as many as 6,563 uninsured vehicles in a population of just 74,898.
The city’s PE1 postcode was ranked the 69th worst in the country; out of a total of 21,815 drivers, 2,809 lacked appropriate insurance.
The city is also a hotspot for whiplash fraud; recently, a group of ten fraudsters were sentenced after they conned insurance companies out of £100,000 worth of compensation for dubious whiplash claims and damage to vehicles.
The ring leader, Ali Askher (45), received three-and-a-half years of jail time for his trouble, whilst his co-conspirators were given everything from briefer periods in jail to suspended sentences.
Following the trial, Mike Magee, prosecuting, commented: “The harm of these offences go beyond insurers.
“They are obliged to pass losses on, in this case to anyone who insures their car in Peterborough, meaning higher premiums.”
