The Snugg Are Told That iPad Rumours Point to Retina Display, Whilst Orange and T-Mobile Prepare for New iPad Unveiling on March 7th

Sources point to a new retina screen for the iPad 3, but are the developers that made the iPad and iPhone so successful, getting the support that they need?

In the latest bout of rumours revolving around the iPad 3, anonymous sources have indicated that the new iPad 3 will feature a retina display, like that on their iPhone 4S. The Snugg has also received word that Orange and T-Mobile outlets up and down the UK are secretly preparing for the iPad 3 launch; readying point of sale displays and demonstration stands.

Richard Mercer, Managing Director of the The Snugg, states:

“The unveiling of what we assume will be the iPad 3, or a HD variant at least, is due to take place this week; so it makes sense for UK mobile operators to be prepared. There are other problems however. The iPad depends quite heavily on its apps and with all the secrecy surrounding the latest iPad iteration; some would question whether the app developers are being provided with the right tools to update their apps accordingly. The use of a retina display would require all of the apps for the iPad to be updated with higher resolution images to remain visually crisp. If the developers aren’t told how big this screen is, or to what resolution they need to be working, they may struggle to update everything in time. The result? Some early iPad 3 adopters may be left feeling sorry for themselves if all of their apps suddenly look fuzzy and poorly finished.”

There is news however that Ryan Petrich of Medialets has created a hack that allows iOS developers to render their apps in the 2048*1536 resolution, which is available for free to those iOS developers in the US.

Given how heavily the iPad depends on its apps, some would question Apple’s approach. App developers are largely responsible for the success of the iPad and iPhone and so it would seem unwise to neglect them.

“It’s a similar story for us here at The Snugg, we create some of the world’s best-selling cases for the iPad, but Apple remains so tight-lipped about dimensions and so on, that it makes designing cases for new releases a bit of a problem. Luckily, we were able to puzzle out the sizes we needed to design our next iPad 3 Case; but we didn’t have an awful lot of time to work with. Since our iPad 2 Cover was such a roaring success, we’ll be using the same materials and quality craftsmanship to create the next iteration. We just wish they’d give us a little more notice so that we can be better prepared for when the iPads hit the shelves,” says Mercer.

Precisely what Apple will unveil on the 7th remains to be seen, but luckily even if some app developers are not prepared; The Snugg will have a case to suit any iPad 3 buyer when the time comes.
