Swissport is named Best Global Airport Service Provider and continues to grow

WEBWIRE

Zurich/London, June 19, 2006 – Having been named Best Ground Handling Company for the previous five years, Swissport International has been awarded an even greater distinction – Best Global Aviation Service Provider – by the UK-based Institute for Transport Management for 2006. The new honour reflects the breadth and diversity to which Swissport, the industry leader, has now developed in the airline and airport services field. The Swissport Group also generated revenues for 2005 which were a 16% increase on the previous year.

The Institute for Transport Management (ITM), a neutral London-based market research organisation, conducts extensive interviews every year throughout the airport, airline and logistics sectors to determine the best operators within them. For the latest 2006 awards, and in contrast to previous years (when its ground services had dominated its activities), Swissport has won the highest ITM distinction for 2006 for the entire aviation services industry.

The new award reflects and acknowledges Swissport’s own recent development: in addition to “classic” passenger and ramp handling, the industry number-one now successfully offers various additional services in further fields such as cargo handling, fuelling, executive aviation, maintenance, security, ULD management and more. In doing so, Swissport is responding clearly and effectively to the strong demand among its customer base of 650 airlines for total aviation services solutions.

Next expansions planned

Swissport International generated total operating revenue for 2005 of CHF 1 499 million (EUR 999 million), a 16% increase on the previous year. For the first quarter of 2006, too, Swissport posted double-digit growth that was well above the industry average. The first few months of 2006 also saw key agreements concluded with Tiger Airways, Ryanair and Air Malta, and entry gained to the Kiev and Ukrainian market. Further Swissport successes are expected in the weeks ahead: a number of attractive acquisitions and commercial agreements are taking concrete shape in Asia and the USA, while new handling licences are also being issued at several European locations.

Swissport International Ltd. (which is owned by Ferrovial, a leading European infrastructure and service corporation based in Spain) provides aviation services for over 70 million passengers and 3.2 million tonnes of cargo a year on behalf of some 650 client companies. With its workforce of around 21 000 personnel, Swissport is active at 176 airports in 41 countries on five continents, and generated consolidated operating revenue of CHF 1 499 million (EUR 999 million or USD 1315 million) in 2005. / www.swissport.com / www.ferrovial.es
