Aging Solutions Announces New Affordable Peace-of-Mind Care Monitoring         Program for Adult Children of Aging Parents

(San Rafael, CA) Aging Solutions, Inc.,  a care coordination, advisory, and advocacy organization for adult children faced with caring for elderly and disabled adults, has announced the Peace of Mind Monitoring Program. The Peace of Mind Program is designed for adult children who need an affordable way of monitoring the health and well-being of their elderly or disabled parents, without also sacrificing their own health and well-being by trying to do it themselves.

According to a MetLife study published in 2011, the share of adult children “providing personal care and/or financial assistance to a parent has more than tripled over the past 15 years.

Currently, a quarter of adult children, mainly baby boomers, provide these types of care to a parent.”  The study also details the enormous cost of this demographic shift to adult children/baby boomers, in terms of both emotional and physical stress, and money. The Peace of Mind Program is designed to help these folks, providing them a way to keep tabs on their aging parents who live far away, or who need extra help that the adult child cannot provide without sacrificing their own work or family commitments.

The Peace of Mind Monitoring Program can include weekly or monthly monitoring. The price is $300 per month and can be easily customized to suit the unique needs of a family. The monitoring can be done for clients living at home or in assisted-living and skilled nursing facilities.

According to Terri Abelar, CEO of Aging Solutions, “We find that many adult children and caregivers are sincerely interested in taking care of their loved ones—but can’t do so because of the demands of daily life and family and work obligations. We are offering a solution in which we act as an adult child’s eyes and ears. We ensure that aging parents get the care they need from providers—such as doctors and home health aides—while letting their adult children preserve their own routines and obligations.”

Client-Centered Care Management

For the past fourteen years, Aging Solutions has been providing Client-Centered Care Management to elderly and disabled adults. This approach means maximizing the integration of community-based services at the local level. It minimizes the need to use the already overburdened health care system as the default resource in a client’s life. It is a model that is increasingly being recognized in the aging and gerontology fields as not only valid, but also of benefit to individuals and health organizations.

Well-executed client-centered care management organizes client care sufficiently to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations and emergency department visits. Client education assists the client in making better life decisions in conjunction with their health care providers and support systems, so that health care utilization can be sharply reduced while quality of life is actually enhanced.
