Apple Remains America’s Valentine, Better Luck Next Year Google; but What Does This Mean for the Tablet Industry? The Snugg Investigates

Apple knocks Google from the top spot in the Harris Interactive Survey, so being a best loved brand is about more than dominating the market, but how will this affect the tablet industry?

Harris Interactive’s annual Reputation Quotient study found that Google lost its number one spot to Apple this year, as Apple scored 85.62 out of a hundred, surpassing Google’s previous best of 84.05.
60 of the world’s most ‘visible’ brands were studied in a survey that spanned 17,555 people; measuring brands on factors such as social responsibility, products and services, emotional appeal, vision and leadership, financial performance and workplace environment. The study saw Google come second, followed by Coca Cola in 3rd and Amazon jumping from 8th last year to 4th place; where Amazon scored highest for ‘emotional appeal’.
Mr Richard Mercer, the Managing Director of The Snugg stated that:
“After reports from Mashable and extensive market research, Android as a platform looked to be dominating the mindset of consumers. This study would indicate that as a brand, much more needs to be done to win the hearts and minds of customers. The passing of Steve Jobs illustrated this well, his story, outlook and philosophy really appealed to people and some would say that he managed to inject some of that into Apple. Amazon on the other hand, has probably gained a ‘leg-up’ because of the release of their Kindle Fire tablet. Either way, Apple, Google and Amazon are becoming a part of our everyday lives and it’s up to them to ensure that their effect on consumers is a positive one so studies like this help us to understand who’s getting it ‘right’”.
Following the success of their best-selling iPad 2 Case, the people at The Snugg have spent a significant amount of time gauging which tablet devices will be the most hotly anticipated this year to help them decide which devices to design cases for; and the consumer perception of the brand as a whole is a good indicator.
“The Apple rumour mill is in overdrive at the moment, with reports of leaked pictures and documentation detailing some of the coming iPad 3’s specifications. Apple needs only to leave a spare component lying around to spark floods of stories and controversy. How many other brands can claim the same? Amazon did a fairly good job before releasing their Kindle Fire however, which made getting the specifications to manufacture our Kindle Fire Case a tad difficult. The Harris Interactive survey however confirms our hunch that all things Apple will be at the height of popularity this year, perhaps peppered with some surprise announcements from Amazon” says Mr Mercer.
Rumours point to a release of the Kindle Fire in a number of new sizes with added functionality, whilst Apple rumours include speculation over the iPad 3’s release date, the possibility of a 7 inch form factor and Apple made TVs.
“Where new form factors are introduced, we obviously need to revise our lines for that particular product and determine whether or not it’s the best use of our resources. As far as the iPad and Kindle Fire are concerned, we’ll be sure to create more of our quality cases to suit any new releases as consumer interest is high. Given our past success, if we apply the same quality materials and workmanship as seen in our iPad 2 cases and Kindle Fire cases, then we should once again, be on to a winner should we produce an iPad 3 Case adds Mr Mercer.
