Stratford University is sponsoring Drs. Subidey and Inci Togan as visiting professors on a J-1 visa exchange program from January 14 through February 6, 2012.

Mr. Togan is a professor of international economics at Bilkent University, located in Ankara, Turkey, and he earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Johns Hopkins University. He is guest lecturing on international economics at Stratford University. Mrs. Togan is a professor of population genetics at Middle East Technical University, located in Ankara, Turkey, earned her Masters degree in Biophysics from Johns Hopkins University, and her Ph.D. from Middle East Technical University in Ankara. She is guest lecturing on her research experiences at Stratford University.

The Togans hope to offer Stratford students and faculty members a different perspective on their teaching subjects, and likewise, take their U.S. experiences back home to their students. Even in a global world, “the Atlantic [Ocean] is a barrier, and should not be,” stated Mrs. Togan. “Even though communication and travel is easier, one must still visit and communicate face-to-face,” she said.

Mr. Togan explained how the students at Stratford are very engaged, offering friendship and hospitality. “The students listened and asked questions throughout our lectures, and at the end they said, ‘thank you,’” he said.

“We are excited to have two distinguished international professors here at Stratford University.  The Togans bring extensive experience and a different perspective to Stratford and their lectures promote a mutual exchange of ideas while giving our students and faculty the opportunity to learn from them. This is an important part of our J-1 visiting professor program which supports Stratford as an international university, stated Dr. Lloyd G. Gibson, Dean of Education at Stratford University.

Stratford University is a sponsor of J-1 visas for students and visiting professors. Students studying on a J-1 visa are able to take just a few courses, or they may choose to study more, up to completing a full degree program. For more information on J-1 visas, the application requirements, and visa restrictions, please contact Stratford University’s International Student Office at 800-444-0804 or visit the International Student Office website.
