Sony launches the next USB MICRO VAULT(TM) generation

Paris, - Sony Recording Media & Energy (RME) division today announced the next generation of USB MICRO VAULT storage devices. The latest Midi and Excellence MICRO VAULT ranges incorporate new, sleek, retractable USB connectors, high transfer speeds and storage capacities as well as the pre-installed Virtual Expander file compression software.

Increased storage

The Sony MICRO VAULT Midi range delivers up to 4GB of storage capacity and is capable of holding over 1,000 MP3 songs or high definition images and over nine hours of MPEG4 video footage. In addition, the pre-installed Virtual Expander compression software enables the new models to hold up to three times the native volume of data. The Virtual Expander software automatically compresses and decompresses the read and write information stored on the device and allows compressed documents to be sent by email.

Increased speed and performance

The Excellence range of midi MICRO VAULT features Turbo enhanced transfer speeds and higher capacity storage space. The upgraded Excellence model optimises data transfer times, providing read speeds of up to 29MB/s and write speeds of up to 23MB/s. As with the Midi series, the Excellence range incorporates the fast and easy to use pre-installed Virtual Expander compression software and provides storage capacities ranging from 512 MB to 4GB.

Sleek design

Sony has re-designed both the Midi and Excellence models to deliver advanced performance, while combining elegance with a compact, robust and lightweight form. The new MICRO VAULT Midi and Excellence USB keys now come in packaging with colour codes for easy identification of different capacity devices. The Midi device comes in its traditional black and silver design while the Excellence range is available in an eye catching gold theme, which reinforces its position as the Flagship unit at the head of the MICRO VAULT family.

To make it easier to see the specifications for each model, logos highlight the incorporated Virtual Expander software and, in the case of the Excellence range - the Turbo feature.

Availability
The Midi and Excellence ranges will be available from June 2006.
