Temasek Polytechnic Gains Innovator Status in Avayas DeveloperConnection Program
Students and staff get hands on experience developing intelligent communications applications for enterprises, a market estimated at US$30 billion worldwide in 2006
SINGAPORE — Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV) a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services, today reaffirmed its commitment to the education sector with the signing of a Collaboration Agreement with Temasek Polytechnic (TP). As part of the agreement, Temasek Polytechnic has also become an Innovator Partner member of the Avaya DeveloperConnection (DevConnect) Program.
The collaboration between TP and Avaya involves the following areas:
* TP as an Innovator partner in the Avaya DeveloperConnection Program
* Joint development of IP Telephony applications
* Setting up of a competency centre and training of TP students
The TP-Avaya Competency Center will be used to provide an environment for students to develop IP Telephony applications that are of industry standard and commercially-viable, while being exposed to a hybrid IP-PBX deployment within the laboratory environment.
As an Innovator partner, students and staff from the Mobile and Wireless Computing program at TP will engage in the development of innovative IP-based business communications applications using Avaya equipment. Avaya will provide technical assistance, and testing of their applications to ensure interoperability.
The Avaya DeveloperConnection program promotes the development, compliance-testing and co-marketing of innovative third-party products that are compatible with standards-based Avaya solutions. Member organizations have expertise in a broad range of technologies – including IP telephony, contact centers and mobility applications – helping companies extend the value of multi-vendor networks and transform voice into an intelligent business application that delivers true value to the bottom line. Member companies must meet rigorous Avaya criteria for customer satisfaction, product support, business operations, marketing and sales.
As a member of DeveloperConnection Program, TP students and staff will have access to a wide range of support from Avaya, including technical resources and training. Students and staff will also have access to other members to engage in knowledge-sharing of the latest in IP-based communications technologies.
“We are indeed happy to tie up with Avaya to provide such an educational opportunity to our students. On a larger scale, TP students and staff will be part of a significant network comprising thousands of organizations through the Avaya DeveloperConnection Program. We will get a chance to develop IP Telephony applications and benchmark ourselves against those developed in the real world,” said Mr. Edmond Khoo, Deputy Principal of Temasek Polytechnic.
The collaboration with TP is another example of Avaya’s commitment to fostering a dynamic community of developers building open, interoperable and highly available applications that use intelligent communications as a strategic asset to help enterprises better connect people and business processes.
Through the provision of software-centric, applications-driven equipment and solutions, Avaya is contributing towards the training of the next generation of Infocomm professionals.
“At Avaya, we feel privileged to be able to contribute to the education of Singapore’s future generation. Temasek Polytechnic’s participation in the DeveloperConnection Program will go a long way in grooming trained professionals in converged technologies that are open and interoperable, something which Avaya has championed since day one. The potential of the business communications applications industry is tremendous, and graduates in this field will be highly marketable globally,” said Mr. Tom Cheong, Managing Director, ASEAN, Avaya Asia Pacific.
