AboveNet, Finalist at UK Internet Industry Awards 2005

AboveNet Is on the Short-List for ’Best Carrier’ at Premier Industry Event

LONDON, 02/22/2005, AboveNet Communications UK Ltd., a leading provider of fiber connectivity solutions for business and a subsidiary of AboveNet Inc., has been named as a finalist for ’Best Carrier’ at this year’s ISPA Awards, the category for the best telecommunications operator providing carrier services to the UK ISP industry.

As well as operating one of the few global Tier 1 IP backbones, AboveNet was also successful in launching a number of new managed services to the London metro marketplace over the course of 2004. By combining its state-of-the-art dark fibre and IP networks with the industry leaders in networking hardware, AboveNet’s London network became the foundation for five new services. These include Metro-IP, a service offering up to 1Gb of IP to a customer’s premises, and Metro-Ethernet, one of London’s most extensive Ethernet networks, which saw 24 of London’s neutral datacentres connected across AboveNet’s private dark fibre network on a switched platform.

AboveNet now successfully services over a quarter of the 110 UK adsl providers, as listed on www.adslguide.org.uk (15.2.2005), as customers, all of whom are using AboveNet and its global IP backbone for transit services.

The UK Internet industry awards, The ISPA Awards, are unique in the fact that they are awarded to people and organisations in the industry by their peers, and they reflect the broad nature of the service provider sector.

The 2005 ISPAs -- the 7th Annual UK Internet Industry Awards -- will be held on 24th February, 2005, at The Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square.
