Sydney Theatre School Managing Director and Course Director Mark Matthews shares his story, “I started Sydney Theatre School in February 2005 in response to my dissatisfaction with traditional actor training methods that spend too much time on classroom work and theoretical techniques such as Stanislavki/Meisner and fail to acknowledge the importance of practical experience performing in front of audiences.

“The concept of production-based training was developed in the UK as a way of addressing this problem and I became aware of it while I was working there in 2003.
