REW.ca Survey Shows Vancouver Area Home Buyers Expect Stability in 2012

What do Vancouver Lower Mainland home buyers and sellers believe will happen to real estate prices in 2012?  According to a survey, conducted by Mustel Research Group and sponsored by REW.ca, the majority (54%) of Vancouver area home buyers and sellers believe that prices will stay about the same in 2012 (view chart here).
 
When asked “Do you believe that prices will increase, decrease or stay about the same in 2012?” responses were:
Ø  54% believe prices will stay about the same in 2012;
Ø  33% believe prices will increase in 2012; and
Ø  13% believe prices will decrease in 2012.
 
This REW.ca survey is part of a larger poll focused on local home buyer and seller behaviours and beliefs. These survey findings provide additional views of the real estate industry, beyond the analysts and economists. Holiday related findings were released December 12th – view here.

Full results of this survey will be released January 5, 2012 and will include: preference for resale or new development homes; type of home preferred; ideal home location; maximum commuting times accepted; and willingness to compromise and on what.

About Survey
The survey was conducted by Mustel Research Group and sponsored by REW.ca. There were 349 interviews completed with residents from Hope to Pemberton, 18 years of age or over who have bought or sold a home or property in the past three years or who plan to purchase/sell in the next three years or so. The 17 communities included in the survey are: Vancouver West Side, Vancouver East Side, Vancouver Downtown, Surrey, Burnaby/New Westminster, North Vancouver, Tri-Cities, Fraser Valley, Richmond, South Delta/Tsawwassen/White Rock, Langley, West Vancouver, Pitt Meadows/Maple Ridge, North Delta, Sea-to-Sky corridor (including Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton), and Bowen Island.
