SEATTLE:  Christmas in the Northwest, produced by Chldren’s Music Fund, Inc. a Seattle based not-for profit, has released a music video for the song “Saving up Christmas,” sung by Loni Rose, and is offering a free download of the song through Christmas Day 2011 to those who “like” Christmas in the Northwest on Facebook.

Saving up Christmas, written by Sue Ennis and Hummie Mann, was inspired by an NPR interview with the wife of a service man going off to Iraq.  It’s a tribute not only to the military men and women who can’t be home during the holidays, but to the women, men and children who eagerly away their safe return.

According to Christmas in the Northwest executive producer Steve Lawson, “Saving up Christmas is as poignant today as it was when it was first released.  Today, as troops are coming home from Iraq, we have to remember that there are still countless soldiers who will not be home for Christmas, and countless families who will miss them dearly.  We want to remember all of them at Christmas.”

Saving up Christmas was released in 2004, on Christmas in the Northwest Volume 7.  The song was featured on the 2004 Christmas in the Northwest holiday TV Special during which a soldier then fighting in Iraq was reunited with his wife in front of a live television audience.  That reunion can be seen on You Tube and on the Christmas in the Northwest website.  The song was arranged and produced by Steven Ray Allen.

The first Christmas in the Northwest album was released in 1985 by Steve Lawson and his wife Debbie, as a fundraiser for Seattle Children’s Hospital to honor the care their daughter received when she was treated for e-coli at the hospital.  At the time, they owned a Seattle based recording company and enlisted the aid of their staff, and local singers and songwriters in their fundraising efforts.

Today, there are 11 Christmas in the Northwest CDs available, featuring Northwest musical artists including HEART, Dave Matthews, Kenny G, Steve Miller, David Lanz, Paul Revere & The Raiders and more.

Net proceeds from Christmas in the Northwest go to fund uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital in Seattle.
