Shockingly Low Literacy Rates are at the Root of Many Problems in Developing Nations.

WEBWIRE has become a fundamental tool in the essential fight for literacy.  Teachers Helping Teachers, Wish Again Foundation, Vialisa Foundation, and Redemption Research are all utilizing the crucial online hub with unwavering resolution to battle the widespread problem and deliver education to those in critical need.
Worldwide literacy remains an obscure goal. With more than 793 million adults lacking literacy skills and more than 67.4 million children who do not attend school, the problem is too large for any one individual or organization to tackle alone.  Teachers Helping Teachers, Wish Again Foundation, Vialisa Foundation, and Redemption Research are four different organizations making productive use of to combat the lack of this essential skill that lies at the heart of any education system. Higher literacy rates are proven to reduce poverty, increase knowledge of personal human rights, promote gender equality, and reduce child trafficking and prostitution rates. Not only that, but the children of literate and educated parents are more likely to be educated themselves, starting a positive cycle that ripples outward through the community, not stopping at towns or borders. makes it simple for these critical causes to unite and work together on one platform, so that they may focus on the tall task of bringing education to where it is most needed.
In 2008 a group of teachers working within the Toronto Catholic District School Board founded Teachers Helping Teachers and they, along with their supportive community partnerships, send a ground of teachers to a small village in Kenya, near Nairobi, each year.  The principal of the small rural school is delighted with the students’ progression, “Their pages are clean, their windows wide open. Although you may go home and forget the smallest things, they will remember what you have taught them. ”
The Wish Again Foundation in Kolkata, India knows how important literacy and education are to the children they see on the streets every day. These children have the same dreams as any other. Many wish to become doctors, teachers, engineers, or scientists, but most have never even seen the inside of a classroom. “Their future looks bleak, without an education they are destined to live a life on the streets or knocking door to door. ”  The foundation’s initiative to supply books, uniforms, nutritional meals and yearly support to allow children to stay in school is a massive undertaking, but one worth fighting for.
There is a bright spot in the slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh where the Vialisa/Korail Education Centre has been painted in cheerful pink, green, and blue. Since 2006, this centre has offered a special six-month program where youngsters are not only educated in reading, writing and mathematics, but also critical life-planning, personal hygiene, and job-seeking techniques. Numerous students took their new found confidence and increased self-reliance and successfully obtained gainful employment.
The children of Chilakaluripet, Andhra Pradesh, India were already struggling to continue their education before several cyclones and heavy rains destroyed crops earlier this year. Due to loss of basic needs for these children and their families, they have not been able to attend any school since the storms. Redemption Research for Health and Educational Development Society is working hard to retain the love of learning in these children by supplying uniforms, books and shoes to enable the youngsters to return to school. Redemption Research reaches out to all children below the poverty line regardless of caste and creed.
Literacy for everyone may seem an unworkable goal, but history has shown that ideas are grown and perfected when combined with multiple thoughts and designs. Every single one of these organizations has put a plan into action and is making a difference.  Now that they have come together under the umbrella, the potential for growth and change is limitless.
Literacy is at the heart of education, and education is at the heart of everything.  For updates on these crucial initiatives or to begin a crusade of your own visit
