Introduced to Chamber of Commerce members as a “firecracker,” Beverly Belury is the fourth nominee for 2011 Business Person of the Year. Belury was introduced at the Oct. 20 breakfast meeting at Eagle Mountain Golf Club.  2010 Business Person of the Year Gary Lvov spoke about the significance of winning the award and individuals who supported the Holiday Inn managing director in promoting the Chamber and town businesses for the last year. Belury joins three other candidates for Business Person of the Year. They are: Body Works Center owner Sherry Sledge; Phil Rodakis, owner of Phil’s Filling Station Grill; and Rose and Bob Sampieri of Pal’s Inn Pet Resort.

Belury said she shares the nomination with her husband John Hersey. “We’re a team,” said Belury. They moved to Fountain Hills in 1998 and created John Hersey International. They co-founded the Contagious Leaders Coaching Club through which they mentor local businesses.

The award dinner will be Saturday, Jan. 21, at Eagle Mountain Golf Club. Tickets are $50 per person. Black tie is optional for the formal affair. “When Beverly Belury enters a room, you know it. She has that rare presence of confidence and energy that seems to be contagious,” said Teresa Russo-Cox, program committee chair.  “Her hunger for knowledge and staying abreast of the newest concepts in business strategies led her to reinvent herself several times,” said Russo-Cox.

She quoted a favorite saying of Belury: “Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.” “That’s what Beverly Belury brings to Fountain Hills: Change. Helping us embrace the future through technology and education,” said Russo-Cox.

At one time, Belury was employed by Tiffany’s and Maritz Travel. She was selected 2009 Chamber Advocate of the Year. She served twice on the Chamber board of directors and was chair in 2005. During her tenure, the Chamber paid off the mortgage on its building eight years early. She spearheaded taking on technology to create a Chamber website and developed the Leaders Institute, now in its sixth year.

Other accomplishments cited were developing the Contagious Leaders Scholarship for high school students, helping to develop the piano competition for young artists, writing grants for Fountain Hills Community Theater and funding public art displays in town.
