In the UK, Black Friday is seen as little more than an online shopping deals day, but in the US, it has become synonymous with traffic jams, frenzied shopping and a day of headaches for the local police as stores open at midnight to cope with the kick-off of the Christmas shopping season.

Earlier this year, The Snugg expanded to the US, the rest of Europe and a number of other territories and so participating in the local festivities has become important in gaining brand visibility. Those retailers selling products that compliment new releases, such as cases for the new Amazon Kindle Fire, are hoping to use this period to kick start the sales of these new lines.

Online retailers are also experiencing increasing Black Friday sales growth with an overall increase of 9% in 2010 whilst Amazon experienced a staggering 25% increase, which improved the sales of all of its sellers as a result.
