1.  Don’t Go Heavy

A big mistake many people make when lifting weights is to go too heavy.  Yes, increasing the weights you use over time is important but those sets need to last long enough to trigger muscle growth.

For optimal muscle building most of your sets should get at least 30 seconds, and up to 50 seconds, of tension time for the muscle you’re working.

When bench pressing, try squeezing the bar tight and moving your hands toward one another.  Your hands won’t actually move but you’ll more thoroughly activate the muscle fibers in your chest.

By including set extending techniques like drop sets, you increase the time under tension on the muscle, while overcoming nervous system failure.
