Session to Highlight Need to Tap Innovative Infrastructure and Underutilized Internet Resources to Meet Common Core Standards, New Digital Content and “Smart Testing”

TORRANCE, California, November 8, 2011 – School districts must move quickly to meet the challenges of Common Core Standards, new digital content and “smart testing” requirements.  At the California Education Technology Professional Association’s (CETPA) Annual Conference, held this week at the Westin Long Beach and the Long Beach Convention Center, a panel moderated by Catherine Banker, Director of Education Compliance at Vector Resources, will discuss these issues and more.

The session, titled “Morphing District Systems from Paper to Digital Deliver” will take place today, 4:00 – 5:15 p.m. in the Odessa Room at the Westin Long Beach.  Participants on the panel include:

Cheryl Bakken, Julian Union High School District
Bob Gravina, Poway Unified School District
Gee Kin Chou, Oakland Unified School District
Bill Simpson, San Marcos Unified School District

The panel will discuss better ways to serve students and their families through the innovative use of technology infrastructure and underutilized Internet resources, such as community hotspots.  For example, schools tend to have continuously high-quality WiFi networks that sit largely unused before and after school hours.  Making WiFi available to the broader community around a school has the potential to assist students in learning.
