deVere Group sponsors cycling team in fight against cancer

The cycling team which has been put together by Ross Pennell, a Consultant in deVere’s Cape Town office, aims to raise funds for CANSA research by participating in cycle races in and around the Western Cape, South Africa.

The team has entered the Coronation Double Century Cycling Challenge, a 202km race involving 200 teams and 2,400 cyclists. The event, which is now in its 19th year, will take place on 26 November 2011, starting and finishing in the historic town of Swellendam on the Western Cape’s Garden Route, taking cyclists via the picturesque towns of Barrydale, Montagu, Ashton, Robertson and Bonnievale.

The Double Century is the premier annual team cycling event and has never been purely about the race but rather about participation and team spirit, philosophies that deVere embraces and encourages. The Double Century is the cycling equivalent of an ultra marathon, and the team will have 10 hours and 30 minutes to complete the 202km distance.

“There is an African proverb which epitomises both the deVere ethos and the Double Century ride”, said Ross Pennell. “If you want to go fast, you go alone. If you want to go far, we will go together”, he added.

Furthermore, deVere and Coronation are currently working together in order to make Coronation’s Offshore Funds available to the deVere South Africa clients via the deVere Fund Platform.

Referring to the team’s chosen charity CANSA, deVere Consultant Ross Pennell added, “Almost everyone’s lives have been either directly or indirectly affected by cancer. In order to find a cure we need research and research needs donations”.
