Audi FIS Ski World Cup opens in Sölden

WEBWIRE

When the new season of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup opens in Sölden this weekend, the ski aces from around the world will be competing under the symbol of the Four Rings for the tenth time. Highlights will be the parallel slalom event at the Olympiapark in Munich, the Hahnenkamm race in Kitzbühel and the finale in Schladming, the venue of the 2013 World Championship.

The 2011/2012 season that will take the athletes on a tour of various European countries, the United States and Russia will open in the Austrian town of Sölden this weekend. Prior to the giant slalom of the women and men being held here in optimum slope conditions the stars of the Audi partner nations will meet at the international Audi Media Talk in Sölden. The automobile manufacturer based in Ingolstadt has not only been the partner of the German Ski Association for more than 25 years but also supports the national teams from Austria, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and the United States. The Canadian team has joined the Audi family as a new member as of this season.

Erik Guay most recently experienced the fact that Audi is far more than a vehicle partner. The current World Champion from Canada trained at the Ingolstadt wind tunnel center prior to the season to perfectly prepare in terms of sports gear and body posture. Athletes from various winter sport disciplines regularly use this opportunity before the start of the season.

After the opening event in Sölden the visit to Levi (Finland) will be on the calendar before the alpine circus travels to North America. The season will end in Schladming in the middle of March. The finale in Austria will also be the “dress rehearsal” for the Alpine Ski World Championship to be held there a year later. As in Garmisch in 2011, Audi will again support the events as Presenting Sponsor in 2013.
