MAN Latin America (São Paulo) is planning the largest investment program in its 30-year history: 2012 to 2016 will see more than €400 million invested in additional production capacity as well as in research and development. The MAN brand, which is set to be launched in Latin America from 2012, will receive its own assembly line in the Resende plant for heavy trucks boasting 400 horsepower or more. The capital will also be used to expand the range of products offered by MAN Latin America and to develop new segments of the market. Roberto Cortes, President of MAN Latin America, announces the investments today at a meeting with Brazilian President Dilma Roussef. MAN Latin America is using its own funds to finance the investment.

Commenting on the program, MAN SE CEO Dr. Georg Pachta-Reyhofen said: “MAN Latin America has been part of the MAN Group for three years. The investments are a logical continuation of the excellent business performance in Brazil and will prove worthwhile in a market that offers further potential for growth.”

At its plant in Resende in the south of state Rio de Janeiro, MAN Latin America produces trucks in the Constellation (13-57 tons), Worker (13-31 tons), and Delivery (5-9 tons) ranges as well as bus chassis in the Volksbus series. The company has around 7,000 employees and a production capacity of up to 82,000 trucks and bus chassis per year. MAN Latin America has already led the Brazilian market for trucks weighing five tons or more for eight years in a row and is currently in pole position, with a market share of over 30 percent.
