Raleigh, North Carolina (October 20, 2011) – Activa Medical, a leader in delivering CPAP machines and supplies of the highest quality at the lowest cost to the patient, has developed a unique exchange program to benefit both its CPAP customers and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International. This program, the first ever of its kind in the industry, will take CPAP machines exchanged by customers purchasing new machines and give them free of charge to children with juvenile diabetes who suffer from sleep apnea and who could not otherwise afford the equipment.

Sleep-related breathing disorders affect a high percentage of children with juvenile diabetes, also called Type 1 diabetes, although this has only recently been recognized. An autoimmune disease that can be fatal, Type 1 diabetes strikes without warning. People with juvenile diabetes face a lifetime of insulin injections or use of an insulin pump to keep them alive. Even so, complications such as kidney disease, vision loss, heart disease and loss of limbs due to infection often affect people with Type 1 diabetes throughout life.

In exchange for the used machine, Activa Medical will issue customers a store credit of up to $200 for a new machine. The condition, model type and age of the CPAP machine will determine the exact amount of the credit, but for a machine in working condition, the store credit will range from $100 to $200. Typically, customers will receive between $140 and $160 in store credit for a working machine.

CPAP supplies such as masks, which are specially fitted to each customer and which require replacement every few months, are not part of the exchange program. Customers can, however, use their store credit to purchase their CPAP supplies rather than a new machine, as long as they use the credit on several different purchases. For a new CPAP/ BiPAP/AutoPAP or VPAP machine, the entire amount can be applied.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International is the world leader in research for juvenile diabetes, awarding more than $1.5 billion to diabetes research since its founding by parents of diabetic children in 1970. More than 80 percent of the foundation’s funds go directly to research.

The partnership between Activa Medical and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International offers a unique and satisfying way for customers to both upgrade their CPAP equipment and help a child in need at the same time. No other company offers this opportunity to benefit another while ensuring that the customer has the most up-to-date technology available for their own needs.
