;(ATLANTA, Georgia) - 10/20/11 – Veteran’s Day, November 11, marks a significant US Holiday of remembrance. For one Atlanta area small business, Silver Star Electrical Contractors (Silver Star), and its owner, Curtis C. Williamson, a retired Marine, Veterans’ Day holds a special and personal significance. “For us, every day is Veteran’s Day,” states Williamson.  His company has headquarters near Atlanta in historic Tyrone, Georgia.

“We believe in a commitment to community,” says Williamson. “Silver Star provides practical appreciation to military, veteran and first responder families and their businesses.”  Williamson continues, “Every business owner decides where their discounts will go. My brother, Butch Cochran and I, put our money where our hearts are, not only on Veterans’ Day but every day. ” Williamson, a Georgia native, also invests in the area’s future by volunteering his time to speak for local schools and community organizations.

Curtis Williamson has a special Silver Star perspective to share with area students. In a time when most Americans weren’t expressing appreciation for military service and sacrifice, the President awarded Marine Corporal Curtis C. Williamson the Silver Star Medal for “Conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with Company L, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division…, in connection with combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam on October 17, 1966.”  The Silver Star medal is the third-highest combat military decoration that can be awarded to a member of any branch of the United States Armed Forces for valor in the face of the enemy.

“Every veteran-owned, small business is providing a heroic contribution to their communities by creating local jobs, services, and contributing to the local tax base,” notes Silver Star’s master electrician, Butch Cochran. The company is also certified as a Services Disabled Veteran Owned small business (SDVO). The SDVO certification applies to a very small group of US businesses and fewer than five percent of the nation’s SDVO small businesses are located in Georgia.
