Fabrica At Experimentadesign 2011

WEBWIRE

Fabrica will participate in the 2011 Lisbon Biennale “ExperimentaDesign”, which for its 6th edition launches an analysis on the idea of “Useless”, with an exhibition dedicated to “Collector”, an issue of COLORS magazine (winter 2010/2011) exploring the world of collectors and with “Lisboa, The Useful Guide of Useless Places”, a guide to some unreported and alternative things to see and learn about Lisbon.

True to its tradition as a ‘magazine that talks about the rest of the world’, COLORS 79 “Collector” seeks to celebrate the diversity of local cultures and of creativity, casting a contemporary eye on tradition and crossing the boundaries between ordinary and extraordinary, between reality and representation. These objects of desire, refined, coveted and exchanged, thus become the pretext for a journey into the history of design, graphics and industrial production, and at the same time, into the habits, interests and needs of human beings.

Another appointment with Fabrica, as part of the Biennale’s “Tangenciais” projects, is at the Fabrica Features space in Rua Garrett 83 with the exhibition by Mariana Fernandes “Lisboa, The Useful Guide of Useless Places”. The city of Lisbon is gracefully deconstructed—all the museums, monuments, buildings and tours of obvious interest are removed—in a way to be reorganized through some delightful useless details. Details that somehow are maps made by those who live daily in the city and love it. It outlines an alternative route in the form of postcards, where some peculiarities might be discovered.

Mariana Fernandes, graphic and illustrator designer is the responsible for Fabrica Features Lisboa. Better than anyone, she can propose a particular and sensitive journey made of personal and inspiring details in her own city. From the most wonderful scenic experience to the best smelling baked cookies, her drawings are an alternative guide to some unique and unreported things to see and do in Lisbon.
