Devin Crane: Celebrity, Pop and Bling Exhibition at James Gray Gallery October 15–November 13, 2011
“Andy Warhol predicted in the future we would all have 15 minutes of fame. That future has arrived.” -- Devin Crane
International Artist Devin Crane will debut his new collection of paintings in Santa Monica, California at the James Gray Gallery, October 15th–November 13th, 2011. Opening reception: October 15th from 6-9pm.
On October 15th, Devin Crane will be unveiling his exciting collection of new paintings focusing on how Celebrity, Pop and Bling have influenced mass culture and society. Cranes’ paintings demonstrate how the Celebrity, Pop and Bling culture has impacted an entire generation and created the lust for fame and excess. The painting “Mother Africa” depicts how “bling” has become a necessary component in contemporary culture and how diamonds are exported from a country where they have no monetary value within their borders. Diamonds have become the status symbol of the elite, beautiful, and hip hop communities. The painting “Make Me Beautiful” is a painting about self-image and the lengths we go to, to make ourselves desired and beautiful in a fast paced world. The painting depicts a young girl surrounded by all the trappings and products that make one beautiful in our pop culture society.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Artist Devin Crane continually finds new ways of interweaving high fashion and luxury branding to amplify the compelling artistry in his paintings. Devin has been a professional in the film industry for the past 15 years. Many of Cranes’ paintings feature his own fashion designs. His work has been featured in esteemed publications such as Palace Costes and Voci Magazine. Devin was the Official 2010 & 2011 Poster Artist for the Cannes/Mougins Senior Golf Tournament. In 2011, Devin showed at Art Monaco 11, Cannes 3.14 Hotel during the Cannes Film Festival, and upcoming at the James Gray Gallery in Los Angeles & the Contemporary Art Auction by Maitre Pierre Cornette de Saint Cyr.
In recent years, Crane has developed a tremendous following and has emerged as one of the most exciting young artists to watch. His work is rapidly being sought out for many important private collections and commissions. Crane has exhibited at many galleries in the United States and Europe. www.DevinCrane.com
