CARGOTEC CORPORATION, STOCK EXCHANGE RELEASE, 26 SEPTEMBER 2011 AT 11.00 AM (EEST)

Cargotec has received a breakthrough order for ship-to-shore cranes from the Bollore group of France, through its wholly-owned Unicaf subsidiary. The contract is for a total of four Kalmar ship-to-shore cranes to be delivered in the third quarter of 2012 to various ports in West Africa. The contract also includes an option for four more ship-to-shore cranes. The parties have agreed that the monetary value will not be disclosed.

This is the first ever order for Kalmar ship-to-shore cranes for West African ports. The cranes will be built to a single box boom type design, with an outreach of 47 m and a 30,5 m rail span. Their maximum lift capacity will be 60 tonnes under the Bromma twin-lift spreaders. The new cranes will be used to provide specialised ship-to-shore gantry crane capacity in ports where handling is currently carried out primarily by mobile cranes or ship’s own gear, and on green field terminals. The new cranes are expected to lead to significant improvements in handling productivity and reliability.

Bollore is an important new customer for Cargotec. The group is one of the biggest container terminal operators in the whole of Africa, and the leader in West Africa. Bollore currently has a network of 13 container terminals in Africa and the group will invest hundreds of millions of dollars to develop both the existing and new terminals during the next few years, allowing them to meet the needs of the fast-growing economies in West Africa, including landlocked countries such as Burkina Faso and Mali.

Ismo Matinlauri, Senior Vice President, Port Cranes says:
“Receiving this landmark contract from Bollore allies us with one of the most respected names in the African logistics sector. The contract has been secured after Cargotec was able to demonstrate both the quality of its equipment and that the capability was available to meet a relatively short lead time to delivery. We believe this will be the start of a long and mutually beneficial relationship between Cargotec and Bollore group.”
