National Dental Hygiene Month Celebrated at Philadelphia Periodontics Office

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - Collegeville and Philadelphia periodontics expert Dr. David DiGiallorenzo is celebrating National Dental Hygiene Month in October by offering wellness tips to new and current patients.

The NDHM theme this year is: “It’s simple. Healthy habits for a healthy smile.” DiGiallorenzo’s healthy habit recommendations include brushing and flossing daily, exercising regularly, eating organic foods, taking nutritional supplements and practicing health-centered behavior.

"We focus a great deal of attention on preventing oral disease,” said DiGiallorenzo, who offers a variety of tooth implants for patients whose periodontal disease has reached advanced stages.

Oral bacteria leads to cavities and gingivitis, which can lead to periodontal and cardiovascular disease, said the implant dentist. Increased oral bacteria levels correlate directly with increased serum c-reactive protein, a cardiovascular event risk indicator.
 
DiGiallorenzo stresses the importance of periodontal checks, in addition to watching for common periodontal disease signs and symptoms. He also recommends using natural, organic, fluoride-free toothpaste and visiting the dentist routinely. Bleeding or receding gums, shifting teeth, missing teeth or bad odor are signs of gum problems and should be examined. For added protection, incorporate an organic-based antimicrobial mouth rinse.
