Opel Vivaro reaches half-a-million production milestone

Ready for 2012: New Euro-5 engines and highly efficient ecoFLEX versions


Rüsselsheim. The Vivaro has made history in the Opel van segment: in August 2011, the 500,000th unit of the instantly recognizable LCV rolled off the assembly line at the plant in Luton, England. The Vivaro – available either as a Panel Van, Combi, Bus or Platform Cab – needed around ten years to clear the half-million mark.

“The Opel Vivaro is highly regarded all throughout Europe. Its versatility, outstanding practicality and economy make it one of the most popular vans in Europe,” says Alain Visser, Vice President Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, on the occasion of the production milestone.

The impressive sales numbers confirm this: with up to 70,000 units per year, the Vivaro has almost ten percent market share in its segment.

Vivaro ecoFLEX: 0.6 liters less consumption

In 2012 the Vivaro will be only be sold with the with 2.0 CDTI diesel variants that meet the Euro 5 emissions standard. Equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) as standard, the engine is available with 66 kW/90 hp or 84 kW/114 hp. This means that the Opel Vivaro qualifies for the green emissions sticker, allowing it to enter even environmentally sensitive areas.

2012 also sees the debut of the new Vivaro ecoFLEX, which achieves CO2 emissions as low as 180g/km and cuts fuel consumption by 0.6 litres / 100km. The Vivaro ecoFLEX is both environmentally friendly and efficient in terms of fuel consumption as it only uses 6.9 liters to cover a range of 100km. These improvements in the Vivaro ecoFLEX were due to the creation of an optimized version of the standard 2.0 CDTI engine. The engine benefits from improved thermal management, longer gear ratios, an aerodynamic underbody tray and low rolling resistance tires. The Vivaro ecoFLEX is available in the following body styles: Panel Van, Combi, Tour and Life.

Six base variants, space for nine people or 8.4 cubic meters cargo

Since 2001, Opel along with its cooperation partner Renault have jointly produced the Opel Vivaro which has made a name for itself as setting new standards in utility and fuel efficiency. When making their order customers can choose between two different wheelbases, two different roof heights and from a variety of base variants. The maximum load volume of the panel van Vivaro version is an impressive 8.4 cubic meters with a maximum payload of 1,210 kg. The Combi version has room for up to nine passengers, and the high-quality bus version “Tour” can accommodate up to eight people. The Vivaro is also available as a platform cab for individual conversion solutions and as a multi-functional leisure vehicle “Life” which has been developed together with Westfalia.

Only a few months ago, Opel and Renault announced their continued cooperation. The production of the second generation Vivaro is planned for the beginning of 2014.
