Sunset Beach Stays Ahead of Technology Curve

The Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort and Spa stands out as multisite resorts go. As an early adopter of technology for tracking and optimizing procurement and inventory they have used Adaco for just about as long as anyone can remember. But with an upgrade to Adaco .NET, resort buyers have new functionality, simpler controls and streamlined approval processes.
 
“What we were using before Adaco .NET was simple enough for our procure-to-pay needs,” said Sunset Beach Ocho Rios Controller Romeo McIntyre. “Adaco .NET generates more informative reports, provides data more quickly and tracks split deliveries when a purchase was not fully delivered. These not only make my job easier but help us control expenses.”
 
The 730-room Sunset Jamaica Grande is spread over 17 acres and includes six restaurants, eight bars and a conference and banquet center. A white-sand beach fringes the resort and five lavish pools meander through the complex featuring waterfalls, plunge pools, Jacuzzis, a swaying rope bridge and swim-up bars. The Sunset Jamaica Grande uses Adaco for food, beverage and general store items, covering everything from hospitality items to engineering.
 
“The interface and features are much better than Eclipse,” said Danian Hacker, referring to Adaco’s previous version designed for client-server architectures. Hacker is Sunset Resort’s IT Manager and was project manager for the upgrade, which also included Montego Bay’s 430-room Sunset Beach Resort & Spa and Negril’s Sunset at the Palms with its 85 sumptuously appointed “treehouse-style” guest rooms. All three resorts are operated as all-inclusive destinations.
 
“Since deploying Adaco .NET, we believe an unintended benefit has been to discontinue some old habits and be more in line with best practices,” Hacker said. Other benefits include a reduction in paper with simplified, built-in electronic approvals.
 
“The Sunset team was well-versed in effective procedures, but advancing to Adaco .NET allowed them to take their skills—and their data—to the next level of optimization,” said Adaco Vice President of Sales Eddie McDonough. “We began training on Monday and they went live on a Friday, confirming the system’s ease of use now that 17 users at three locations now know the system from top to bottom.”
