15 new sites by the end of the year • Proximity to customers in all key economic regions

(Berlin/Essen/Beijing) DB Schenker Logistics, the logistics division of Deutsche Bahn, is further strengthening its network in China. A total of 15 new sites are to be opened there by the end of the year. These will include locations in additional cities in the coastal regions as well as in new centers of economic interest in the interior, such as in the rapidly growing city of Urumqi and others like Hohhot, Mianyang and Weihai. Offices were already opened in Zhangjiagang, Huzhou and Shaoxing in June. An additional office was opened in Yiwu in central China in mid-August. The representative office in Dongguan in southern China has just been converted to a branch office. Dongguan is the country’s third-largest exporting region following Shanghai and Shenzhen. Until now, DB Schenker has been active at over 50 sites in China with some 4,600 employees.

“Hardly any other country is currently as important as fast-growing China with regard to global trade and industry. Together with our customers, we are now following economic development to the Chinese hinterland,” said Dr. Thomas C. Lieb, Chairman of the Board of Management of Schenker AG and responsible for global air and ocean freight activities. “We combine a local presence with our worldwide network, thus ensuring consistent high quality of services and solutions, in line with global standards for our customers’ supply chains throughout the entire process, from the source to the destination.”

DB Schenker is one of the country’s leading service providers for integrated logistics and has been present in China for more than 45 years. The national company was founded in Hong Kong in 1966. Hong Kong is one of the most important airfreight hubs in the DB Schenker network. The joint venture Schenker BITCC Logistics (Beijing) Co. Ltd. was founded in Beijing in 2002, one of the first such companies with a foreign-owned majority shareholding. The logistics center near the airport serves, among other things, as a distribution hub for automobile parts. A state-of-the-art logistics center was erected in Shanghai in 2005. DB Schenker recently commissioned its own IT service center for the Asia-Pacific region in Nanjing.
