TestAmerica’s Air Expert Uncovers Latest Updates on Vapor Intrusion Guidance at the AIPG-AIH National Conference

WEBWIRE

William Elcoate, TestAmerica’s Air Product Manager and Vapor Intrusion (VI) expert will provide the latest regulatory updates, for ambient air and volatile compound inhalation risks, at the American Institute of Professional Geologist/ American Institute of Hydrology (AIPG-AIH) National 2011 Conference. The presentation will be given on September 13th in Bloomingdale, IL.

With the 2002 publication of the U.S. EPA’s Vapor Intrusion Guidance, there has been a significant focus on VI site investigations for Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) contamination. Federal and State regulators have generated guidance documents, surrounding ambient air and indoor air inhalation exposure in response to regulatory, scientific, and increasing public health concerns. Subsequently, these drafts have varying levels of acceptance by industry practitioners. Many of these guidance documents do not adequately address the subjects of chemical analysis and overall data quality.

The Illinois EPA (IEPA) is anticipated to release an updated guidance this year, and the U.S. EPA has announced that they will release an updated guidance in 2012. Mr. Elcoate’s overview presentation will discuss the challenges and current regulatory status for vapor intrusion, best practices for site investigations, and what to anticipate from both IEPA and EPA.

Mr. Elcoate has over 20 years of experience in the environmental testing industry, and is currently the technical and regulatory expert for TestAmerica’s Air Testing Program. He actively reviews current and emerging ambient air regulations and initiatives, and provides continued guidance for testing support.
