Single Consolidated Data Warehouse Provides Foundation for Business Intelligence Solution

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Oracle today announced that Mutual of Enumclaw Insurance Company, a mutual company that provides a broad array of insurance products and services, is using the powerful combination of Oracle® Database 10g on Linux to achieve a tenfold increase in performance while significantly reducing infrastructure costs.
The 108-year-old Washington state-based insurance group provides insurance to customers in Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Washington. Faced with the challenge of reporting across a number of disparate data sources, including mainframe and legacy systems that hold essential policy and claims data for the past 10 years, Mutual of Enumclaw implemented an Oracle data warehouse to enhance management reporting and business analysis. Earlier this year, Mutual of Enumclaw migrated its data warehouse from Oracle Database 9i to Oracle Database 10g, creating the primary data source for its business intelligence (BI) processes. The new system runs on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 from Novell, delivering a secure, low-cost, high performance infrastructure that can easily scale to meet increasing customer demand.

By consolidating disparate data sources into a single data warehouse using Oracle Database 10g, coupled with Oracle BI products, including Oracle Warehouse Builder and Oracle Discoverer, Mutual of Enumclaw was able to implement a much improved reporting solution and deliver an enhanced information source for business analytics that delivers fast, reliable information access to key business stakeholders. The data warehouse provides various departments, such as underwriting and actuarial, with critical BI functionality that enables faster time to market for new products and services and enhanced customer satisfaction. By implementing Oracle Automatic Storage Management, a key feature of Oracle Database 10g, Mutual of Enumclaw can now automatically load balance its database across multiple available storage disks to enable better performance and reliability, help eliminate the need for manual storage management, and help lower storage and management costs.
