[BRISBANE, Australia] TIME is running out for the chance to live rent-free in Brisbane, Australia next year with voting for Keys to Brisbane starting in 9 days.

Brisbane resident Simon Hamill, 27, said his website, www.keystobrisbane.com offers a winner $2000 worth of flights, plus up to a year’s rent-free accommodation at his riverfront apartment, which is located at Auchenflower in Brisbane’s inner-west.

The website was launched last month and has already spread to 77 countries throughout the world.

The fully furnished two-bedroom apartment has views of the Brisbane River and the CBD as well as two bathrooms, two car parks, a tennis court, pool, gym, spa and sauna.

To be considered for the amazing offer, applicants need to pay AUD$20 and submit a one-minute video, or a short written application about why they want to live in Brisbane.

The successful applicant will be selected based on a public online vote, followed by interviews.

“It’s really a win-win way of renting because on the one hand, I get the peace of mind of knowing about the tenant before they move in and having the rent paid upfront… and the tenant wins too because for the sake of $20, they get $2000 worth of free flights plus free rent,” Mr Hamill said.

Mr Hamill said the idea is loosely based on Tourism Queensland’s 2009 Best Job in the World.

“I came up with the idea of Keys to Brisbane as a fun and creative alternative to renting through a real estate agent,” Mr Hamill said.

“More than 12,000 people in 77 different countries have been to the website,” he said.

“The majority of applicants so far have come from Australia, New Zealand, England, Canada, China, USA and Chile.”

Mr Hamill said although applications do not close until 16 September, applicants should apply prior to 2 September to give themselves the best chance of gaining votes.

“People will be able to vote for their favourite applicants once per day from 2 September until 16 September with the ‘Top 20’ voted applicants proceeding to the interview stage,” Mr Hamill said.
