ARUBA - Matthew Smillie, owner of the Aruba rentals agency Aruba Villa Vacation Homes, observes that many travelers see Aruba as a shopping Mecca. Here he lists the top reasons to shop on Aruba:

Prices: The island offers various upscale stores with a wide selection of international brand name products. However, the prices are 10 to 35 percent below what you would pay in the U.S. Visitors from all over leave Aruba with luxury goods at great prices.
 
Convenience: The grocery store is one type of store that visitors would rather avoid.   But the popular website lets visitors pre-order groceries to be delivered when they arrive. Shoppers do need to be present when the food is delivered.  
 
Variety of Goods: Jewelry is especially popular and the stores have plenty of diamonds, gold and silver jewelry and watches. Travelers can also buy collectibles, Dutch cheeses, perfumes, cosmetics, electronics, china, Cuban cigars, resort wear, designer apparel, souvenirs, Dutch delft, and unique handmade items. “If you want something, you’ll find it at Aruba,” observes Smillie, owner of an Aruba beach villa service.

Oranjestad: Oranjestad, the capitol of Aruba, is a charming town whose main street is sometimes designated car-free.  A trip to Oranjestad is worth it just to see the town’s unique and beautiful island architecture. It also offers a great variety of shops to draw shoppers from all over the island and from cruise ships at the Oranjestad port. “The town can get crowded, so visitors should be prepared or plan to shop during off-hours,” warns Smillie, whose agency provides beach vacation rentals.

Various Shopping Destinations: Oranjestad is not the only spot for good shopping. Shopping destinations can be found throughout Aruba.  The major hotels all offer stores with fine and unusual merchandise.
