Metroplex Technology Business Council Names Celanese Tech Titans Award Finalist
Celanese recognized for technical innovation for the production of ethanol
DALLAS – The Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC), the largest technology trade organization in Texas, has named Celanese Corporation (NYSE: CE), a global technology and specialty materials company, a finalist in the “Innovator” category as part of the 11th Annual Tech Titans and Titan Fast Tech Awards. Tech Titans are recognized as outstanding technology companies and individuals in the North Texas area who have made significant contributions to their industries during the past year.
“Tech Titans is the premier recognition of fast-growing, highly innovative companies that contribute to the vibrancy of the North Texas economy and make our region an exciting place to live and work,” said Hernan Giraldo, vice president of Sales for Applications Software at Alcatel-Lucent, and Chair of the MTBC’s Tech Titans steering committee. “We look forward to showcasing true leaders in our industry and celebrating their hard work and creativity.”
Celanese has been named a finalist for its technical advancements in the production of industrial and fuel-grade ethanol. Celanese has developed an advanced process to produce ethanol from non-food sources. The new process, known as TCX™, integrates elements of Celanese’s leading acetyl technologies with new advancements to manufacture ethanol from basic hydrocarbon sources such as natural gas, coal and pet coke.
“Celanese is honored to be named a finalist for our TCX™ ethanol production innovation,” said Darren Collins, vice president of Operations, Acetyl Intermediates. “Celanese’s TCX™ technology could fundamentally change the way ethanol is produced. Its potential economies of scale, high levels of feedstock efficiency and flexibility is anticipated to set it apart from traditional ethanol production methods. It is expected to open new markets to Celanese as a business and is anticipated to provide new routes to support a country’s desire for energy independence.”
Collins continued: “The TCX™ technology, like other Celanese world-class technologies, is designed to be significantly economically advantaged compared to competitive processes and feedstocks. Anticipated to be extremely efficient in its conversion of raw materials to ethanol, the technology utilizes best-in-class manufacturing processes designed to provide customers with a stable supply of high-quality product.”
The Tech Titans Award winners will be revealed at the Tech Titans Award Gala at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas, on Friday, August 26, 2011. More information about the event is available at www.metroplextbc.org/techtitans.
