Douglas L.A. Smith recently completed his nine-year tenure as Chair of the Board of Directors of Contact North. “This has been an excellent experience to be part of such an important development in the Province. The future of our country depends upon education. And with the advances in technology we are now able to reach all people, no matter where they live,” said Doug.

During his term the organization saw an extraordinary increase in course registration. He also helped establish 18 regional educational centers under the elernnetwork.ca banner. This created a province-wide network, which now supports 112 small, remote, and rural communities. “This is a very important component of the future of education in Ontario and sets the stage for other rural regions in Canada,” said Doug, after receiving special thanks for his many accomplishments from Michael Gravelle, MPP, Minister of Northern Mines and Development.

“Over the past nine years Contact North has benefited immensely from Doug’s leadership and vision. The access to education that Northern and remote areas of Ontario now enjoy will continue to enrich the province into the future. (Doug), you leave behind a legacy of progress and growth for Northern Ontario,” said Gravelle.

Doug Smith has relocated to the Vancouver area to work fulltime with the global unconsulting firm he helped to develop, STRATEGIC PLAY® Group Ltd. Strategic Play uses visual problem solving to tackle difficult problems, helping organizations and communities move forward toward their goals. Doug was a longtime member, trained by the LEGO® Group from Denmark. He also holds certifications from the Creative Problem Solving Institute.
