Four leading experts from EMSL Analytical, Inc. recently returned from The ASTM Johnson Conference. The conference sponsored by ASTM Committee D22 on Air Quality was held last week at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont.

Objectives of the conference were asbestos monitoring, with emphasis on topics such as the current regulatory framework, risk management, risk assessment and methods for monitoring asbestos in air, soils, and other matrices. National and international experts in asbestos monitoring research presented their latest findings at the conference.

ASTM Committee D22 sponsors the Johnson Conference to provide a unique forum for presenting current research and fostering open discussion. The program was of particular interest to environmental consultants, industrial hygienists, laboratory analysts and managers, building owners, and federal, state and local government officials.

This years sessions at the conference primarily focused on: Human Health & Toxicology; Real-world Application of Science to Decision Making; Monitoring & Remediation International and Domestic Methods; Soils, VAI and NOA; Litigation Involving Science; Asbestos Analysis and Quality Assurance; and Definitions & Nomenclature.
