Hong Kong, - The International Engineering Consortium (IEC) today presented TANDBERG Television (Oslo: TAT.OL) with an InfoVision Award during a ceremony at the Broadband World Forum Asia 2006 in Hong Kong. The TANDBERG High Definition Intelligent Compression Engine (HD-ICE) for MPEG-4 AVC and SMPTE VC-1 won in the ’Enabling Silicon and Component-Level Technologies’ category. This ground-breaking first-to-market technology is changing the face of the television industry, enabling network operators and broadcasters to cost-effectively deliver high quality HDTV services thanks to its ability to reduce the amount of bandwidth used by up to 50%. Asian telcos including PCCW and Shanghai Telecom are already leveraging the benefits of TANDBERG Television’s MPEG-4 AVC solutions, along with many other customers internationally.

“It’s an honor to receive an award from an internationally recognized institution and this latest award further cements our position as the leader in HD video compression,” says Graham Cradock, Executive Vice President and General Manager of TANDBERG Television’s APAC operations. “Our engineers consistently produce solutions that enable our customers to overcome technological challenges and achieve their television goals. We have an outstanding team and I am pleased to congratulate them on this latest accolade.”

The InfoVision awards are designed to recognize the top broadband innovations in Asia, with companies rewarded according to the following criteria: value of the service in solving technology problems; overall quality of innovation and contribution toward industry growth technology advancement; originality and vision; market success and contribution to the quality of the viewing experience for the end user.

“The competition was stiff with many fine entrants,” says IEC Content Director Tom Costello. “The selection process was very difficult with an exceptional group of InfoVision Awards this year. We recognize InfoVision finalists as products that provide superior service to the industry and the community.”
