FORT WALTON BEACH, Florida – BAE Systems has launched a new web site to showcase an award-winning product and service that helps government and commercial customers manage obsolete parts for complex systems and platforms, including entire aircraft, ships, vehicles, machines and electronics. The site, at www.baesystems.com/avcom, features the company’s widely used suite of tools and services called AVCOM (Advanced Component Obsolescence Management).

At its core, AVCOM is a web-enabled tool that allows users to forecast when a part will become obsolete or too expensive, and then finds suitable replacements from across the marketplace. With a database accessing more than 100 million parts, the tool is widely used throughout the military and industry for obsolescence management. It can deliver significant savings for the total cost of a system or platform, by efficiently resolving difficult part obsolescence issues and by providing advanced planning capabilities for managing the full life-cycle needs of a product.

“Our customers can never assume that the parts they purchase today will be available tomorrow,” said Gordon Eldridge, vice president and general manager of Aerospace Solutions at BAE Systems Support Solutions. “AVCOM offers an accurate, reliable and affordable solution to meet this challenge, plus a proven track record of success.”

With four tiers of service, the tool is specially designed for a variety of needs and budgets – from inexpensive, small-scale projects to large-scale, complex requirements. The BAE Systems team also offers the experience and expertise necessary to establish a complete obsolescence management program. Customers are supported by an array of uniquely skilled U.S. technicians and logisticians, backed by a talented staff of database managers, application developers and software engineers.

AVCOM has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Defense for its quality, service and performance. The tool is frequently distinguished for its delivery of extensive obsolescence management functionality, and it has been recognized for supporting the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command and other defense contractors.

BAE Systems Support Solutions, based in Rockville, Maryland, provides a range of services to meet needs in readiness and sustainment and operational support across the land, aviation, maritime and C4ISR domains, supporting the U.S. Department of Defense and federal agencies. Support Solutions is also a leading non-nuclear ship repair, modernization and conversion company, serving the U.S. Navy and other maritime customers.
