Neste Oil Rally’s organizers to use 100% renewable diesel at this year’s event

Vehicles operated by the competition organization at this year’s Neste Oil Rally Finland, held between 28 and 30 July, will run on 100% renewable diesel produced by Neste Oil.

The organizers will run a total of 29 vehicles solely on Neste Green 100 diesel, which is expected to half the vehicles’ greenhouse emissions during the three-day event.

“Neste Green 100 diesel is an excellent innovation that we want to support and use in our operations; the fact that most of our vehicles are diesel-powered makes it easy to do just that,” says the Managing Director of AKK Sports Oy, Jarmo Mahonen.

“Renewable diesel is making day-to-day driving more environmentally friendly, and it’s doing the same for motorsports as well, which is very much in line with our values as a company,” continues Mahonen.

Neste Green 100 diesel reduces greenhouse emissions by at least 50% over its entire life cycle compared to fossil diesel. It also reduces local emissions significantly, which helps improve urban air quality.

A premium-quality fuel, Neste Green 100 diesel is compatible with all current diesel engines and has been developed in close cooperation with leading automotive manufacturers and complies with the industry’s toughest standards. At the moment, motorists can fill up with a Neste Green blend that contains a minimum of 10% renewable content.

“We have built up some very positive experience with 100% renewable diesel in a variety of conditions,” says Marketing Director Sirpa Tuomi of Neste Oil. “We are very happy to see that our long-time partner and a pioneer in the rally world, AKK Sports, is now going to make use of the fuel in their operations.”

The revamped route of this year’s Neste Oil Rally will extend from Central Finland southwards to the Päijät-Häme region around Lahti. This year, the event will also be accompanied by the Lahti Historic Rally, which has been granted European Championship Historic Rally status.


Neste Oil Rally in brief

The annual Neste Oil Rally Finland is a World Rally Championship (WRC) event. Organized since 1951 and previously known as the 1000 Lakes Rally, the event is renowned for its fast gravel sections, great jumps, and beautiful lake scenery. This year’s event will be held between 28 and 30 July and be based in and around Jyväskylä, with some sections extending southwards to Lahti. The rally is one of the largest annual public events in the Nordic region and also one of the largest on the WRC calendar in terms of number of competitors.
