Dr. Corey Hebert, an award winning medical broadcast journalist, appeared on the Dr. Oz show on May 24th,2011, to address the trend of parents being arrested and/or fined when they have a “fat” or “obese” child. Dr. Hebert explained, in a way that only he can, that parents should be held responsible for their children’s weight problem and that they should have, “professional help from outside the home to combat the very common problem.” He also felt that after an intervention is made and the parent still does not comply with the mandates from the court system, then the parents should be procecuted to the full extent of the law for child abuse and or neglect. Dr. Hebert also voiced that, “Parents just need to have all of the information and once they do its up to them to educate their family on the hazards of emotional overeating.”

Dr. Corey Hebert works as on-air medical editor for the NBC television affiliate in New Orleans and the Gulf South as well as a frequent on-air contributor to the Dr. Oz Show. http://drcoreyhebert.com.
