Giesecke & Devrient Promotes Science in Grade Schools
Munich – “Children discover technology”(KiTec) is the motto behind an educational partnership that Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) has now entered into with the Augustenfeld grade school in Dachau, Germany. A special day of activities encourages pupils to become acquainted with scientific subjects and have fun at the same time, learning about the principles of physics and how technologies work. As a member of the association “Wissensfabrik – Unternehmen für Deutschland e. V.”, an open platform for German companies, educational institutions, and initiatives wishing to promote and share knowledge, G&D supports a number of schools in Munich and the Upper Bavarian region under the KiTec initiative.
Within this educational partnership, which will run for at least one year, G&D finances KiTec construction kits and provides training to teachers in the educational concept and how to use the kits. The teachers are responsible for putting the concept into practice, but whenever necessary they are vigorously supported on the activity days by the project managers at G&D, who also offer advice during the phase of scientific evaluation. The KiTec project was developed by the Transfer Center for Neurosciences and Learning (ZNL) in Ulm and the Chair of Didactics of Technology at Dortmund University.
G&D is involved in various educational projects which are designed for different age groups. In addition to KiTec, the company plays a part in “IT-Hochburg-Deutschland”, an initiative to develop young IT talent under the patronage of the German Ministry of Education and Research. G&D also regularly opens its doors for the nationwide Girls’ Day. The technology company would like to show how exciting and varied technical jobs can be. Children and young people are given the opportunity to try out and compare in practical terms what they like the most. This is an important experience when it comes to choosing a career.
Harmonizing work and family life is another area of major interest at G&D. For the third time in succession the Munich-based family firm has been awarded the berufundfamilie® audit certificate, which is the seal of quality for a new work-life balance.
