Recruitment Specialist Core Talent Backs Journalist’s Comments on Lord Sugar & Engineering Jobs
Engineering jobs recruitment specialist Core Talent has come out in support of one journalist’s recent comments opposing the views of Lord Alan Sugar in the television show The Apprentice.
Writing for the Daily Telegraph, jobs editor Louisa Peacock spoke out against Lord Sugar’s statement on the show that he had “never come across an engineer that can turn his hand to business”.
Ms Peacock explained that it is unhelpful to suggest the engineering profession has “an image problem”, considering it has such a big role to play in helping the UK economy back onto its feet.
She added there has, for a while, appeared to be a distinct lack of structure in the engineering career path, meaning many youngsters do not actually understand what constitutes an engineering career and what it has to offer.
However, the expert noted both employers and the government “are starting to change this”.
“The government’s apprenticeship service is working with big names from Siemens to BAE Systems to create more apprenticeship jobs and spur interest among young people for a career in engineering. The industry is vast from mechanical and civil engineering to software design engineering,” she explained.
Reacting to Miss Peacock’s comments, David Nesbitt, director at North West recruitment firm Core Talent, which specialises in engineering jobs in Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool, said: "Although we do not specialise in civil or software design engineering ourselves, we agree that - across the board - it is vital over the next couple of years to raise awareness about the importance of engineering jobs to the economy and show young people how a career in the industry is challenging, varied, interesting and very respectable.
“Core Talent specialises in engineering jobs, and we always make sure our clients know just how rewarding a career in the sector can be.”
