Personal injury compensation claims specialist Clear Law Solicitors has welcomed the announcement of an upcoming event aimed at reducing the number of accidents at work in Scotland.

According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), its Scotland Safety and Health Forum, which will take place on September 21st, will specifically look at how to prevent ill health and accidents during difficult economic times and budget cuts.

The event will include interactive workshops, panel interviews and discussion groups and is expected to be attended by the likes of company directors, HR professionals, health and safety advisers and senior managers.

Karen McDonnell, head of RoSPA Scotland, said: "This type of event is a valuable opportunity to learn from other firms’ successes - as well as to find out how they coped when things went wrong.

Preventing avoidable losses caused by accidents is vital when budgets are being squeezed and so the theme of this forum is highly relevant to the challenges faced by employers"

Reacting to the announcement, Matt Corbett, a Partner & Personal Injury Claims Solicitor at Clear Law Solicitors stated: “We welcome the news that RoSPA is making the prevention of accidents at work one of its top priorities over the next couple of months.”

“We know from our many years of experience working alongside victims of work-related injuries throughout the UK that they can have a terrible effect on the sufferer’s life, not to mention friends and family. Accident rates absolutely must be reduced.”

Following Ms McDonnell’s comments that there were “23 worker fatalities in Scotland, 2,548 reported major injuries to employees and 7,992 over-three-day injuries to employees” in 2009-10, Matthew Corbett went on to note that while accidents at work are still a risk, compensation still offers victims a chance to considerably improve their quality of life and fund necessities such as altered transport requirements, property adaptations, care, treatment and more.
