An American president gave a thumbs-up to an American hero! There were plenty of famous folk attending the opening night of the much-buzzed about Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark, but if any guest understood the pressures Spider-Man faces when protecting a nation, it’s former president Bill Clinton. After attending the show on June 14, Clinton was so blown away by the musical extravaganza, he released a statement expressing his love for Spidey & Co.

“What an amazing and historic night on Broadway,” Clinton said. “New York has never seen anything like Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark. And I am very proud of them for not giving up, it was fabulous.”

Clinton and his wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, are no strangers to Broadway. In recent years, the couple has attended several Broadway shows, including Next to Normal, The 39 Steps and Hair. After seeing Spider-Man, the former president stepped backstage at the Foxwoods Theatre to congratulate Bono and The Edge and pose with the composers and first-nighter Robert De Niro.
